Buildings both cause, and are affected by, sustainability impacts.  Buildings are responsible for roughly 40% of carbon dioxide emissions, 50% of all extracted materials, 33% of water consumption, and 35% of generated waste globally.  They are also vulnerable to climate risks—which translates into financial risks for real estate developers, owners and investors.
